School Mental Health (SMH) Field Instruction Program

School Mental Health (SMH) has been offering more than 40 years of field instruction to students pursuing a Social Work Degree.  The SMH Field Instruction Program is the largest comprehensive school-based clinical social work internship in the state.  Each year, undergraduate and graduate social work students from CSU Dominguez Hills, CSU Los Angeles, CSU Long Beach, CSU Northridge, UCLA, and USC are placed at one of our sites under the supervision of an approved SMH Field Instructor.

The job of the Field Instructor is to maximize the learning opportunities available for our interns placed within School Mental Health.  Interns placed with SMH are taught how to deliver a wide range of pupil personnel and mental health services in Primary and Secondary Schools, as well as in Clinics and Wellness Centers.  Student interns support the work of School Mental Health professionals and will leave their internship having gained a wealth of experience in the field of School Social Work.
